From The Archives: Graphics & Labels

It has been quite some time since putting words down here at REDCROW blogspot... Unfortunately  the projects as of late have been few and far between since last November but the itch is there and it is need'n to be scratched. The sketch book is full so it is high time to get  a build'n! Lot's of goods are in the works for some very near future funtimes. As always will get to a sharing as the projects begin to take shape.

As for now, I recently had the great fortune of taking time out of the regular schedule and hit up a few spots to dig and gather, something I need to do more often.

Here are a few images for your viewing pleasure. Sticking with a focus on the details, mostly graphics and inner neck labels.

Here are a few random assortment of various graphics and packageing.

Also, upon one outing I come upon this beauty of a cover-all!
Big fan of the chain stitch embroidery.

Well a time it is a waist'n so...
Back to it!

Been  gather'n up a bunch of various labels that catch my fancy for a little project. Feeling kind and generous enough that I will share a small offering of the goods gathered.
Enjoy!

Back to it...

Keep the Mill Turning.

Stumbled upon a denim company today that caught my attention Anytime you mix the past with a new product you have my attention. Well enter Amoskeag XX Coveralls. Apparently in the 18th century there was one of the first denim mills in America called Amoskeag mill that used the power of the river to drive its weaving machines. Got me interest. Well during the great depression the mill slowly shut down. Enter today and the name is brought back to life in a modern denim and apparel company. I like that they offer in their knit shirts a clean version and a well worn version. I am still wondering when someone will figure out a way to build a good quality "heritage" denim and put it up for a reasonable price... Well if you have the $ and want to check em out go here. And for more info go on some of what they are up to go here.

Cheers.

Collection: Headwear.

Recently finished building a few 'Driver' style hast out of grey wool from my good friend Mr. Glover over at Jonathan Glover Photography as well as for myself.
These are built from a pattern I created based from an old 1970's Levis corduroy hat that actualy has a cardboard brim. The brim I make out of 2 used 32oz. plastic yogurt containers. The label inside the hat is printed on a muslin fabric that I hand tea dyed.
The hat below is made from a nice 100% cotton brushed herringbone twill fabric. Both are lined in a light weight black poplin.

Will be building more soon as well as offering them in the Redcrow shop if anyone is interested.
Cheers

Want: Bluco Work Garments.

In this time of amazing workwear styling for the menswear market no one has more options and do it better than the Japanese. Nuff said there.
While taking my daily cruze on the "information super highway" I found several shops and companies over there that have some great goods. One of them is Bluco Work Garments.
One of the better pieces they currently offer is the OL-015 Work Coat. It has very thought out detail and styling. One detail that I find so perfect is the hammer loop. Oh and can't forget the large file inside pocket. Genious! If this is your kind of thing check em out... Now if only we had such great product here in the states.

Cheers.

New Label Layout.

Built a driver style hat the other day and needed a new label for it so this is what I came up with.
The pattern for the hat I built from an old corduroy driver from Levi's that is from the 1970's.
I will share more about the hat when I get a good photo of it, which is turning out to be a much harder thing to do than one would think.

Cheers.

Want: Red Wing Boots.

I have been seeing a lot of 'heads up' on Red Wing boots. Though the style that most of them are talking about I am not so much a fan of, they do have quite a selection that I find myself longing to place upon my own feet and do some walking, hiking, and just plan man work. Here are just a few that tickle my fancy.1911 Gentleman Traveler

*side note*
I do find it quite interesting how traditional workwear has become so popular... Now when I say this keep in mind that I use 'popular' loosely coming from the trenches of menswear fashion found along the coast of the good ol' USA, the mens trade rags, and so called 'hip' blog sites. With my recent relocation to a somewhat rural town in Utah I find that I am now in the midst of people who have been rocking this stuff all of their lives working on their farms, ranches and homesteads. I wonder how they feel about it? Whatever they feel this is what is so exciting about fashion taking things that are comen and making them something special or very interesting. I am actually quite excited to shop feed sores and thrift shops to fill some of my fashion needs. Since I am not able to afford the fancy designer versions of workwear, with no steady income coming in right now, I am quite content spending what I can on the actual OG brands and doing my own little pinning, tucking and tailoring alterations to make it fit just as good or better than the expensive stuff. Now don't get me wrong I really like what brands like Engineered Garments, RRL, and Earnest Cut and Sewn are doing and if I could I would own pieces from them but for now I will look to them for styling and then make it my own with what I got....
Long live the rugged style and mans need for workwear!
Cheers.
